Dentures Implants

There must be a better way to keep dentures in place other than with denture adhesives right? Well there is and they are called dentures implants.

First, let's look at dental implants. What are they? In short, they're an artificial tooth root made out of titanium. The dentist places the titanium implant in the jaw where it becomes one with the jaw bone a lot like a natural root does - the technical term for this process is osseointergration. Natural tooth roots hold teeth firmly in place and so do implants. Once the dental implant is set, the dentist places an abutment on the implant to support the crown (or false tooth). The implant goes in the jaw bone, the abutment goes on the implant and the crown goes on the abutment.

So now we know what a dental implant is, so what are dentures implants.

Look at it this way, instead of one dental implant supporting one crown, the dentist sets 4, 5 or sometimes 6 implants in the jaw, once all the implants are firmly in place, the dentist attaches an implant supported denture or dental bridge to the implants. The denture or bridge is then semi-permanent, meaning that it can be removed or adjusted but only by a dentist.

According to the companies that make dental implants, and the dentists that place them, there are many benefits to dentures implants over conventional dentures. Dentures implants are a permanent solution, they will look and feel like your natural teeth. You will also take care of them like natural teeth. Once in place the dentures implants will not drop, move or slip, and you will be able to use eat many of the foods that you have been missing.

One factor to consider is cost. Dentures implants are much more expensive than dentures. With that said many people are more than willing to pay the price for no more dentures.
